I recently had a conversation with my friend John Bauer, about this game I am playing with Adolph's he said it does not work so well with his name since there are way too many Johns in the world. Well from time to time I have met an Adolph, and sometimes it happens that not only do they share names but also surnames. For example Adolf Witt is a astrophysics and shares his name with a German boxer from the 1930's. Also there are a number of Adolf Mayer's.

The Russian patronymic might come across as a strange system since it means women are identified by their fathers names, and later when they marry by their husbands surnames. A Patronymic serves like a second name; it is the name of your father, and for women the name gets put in its feminine form. For today's post, we have a case that a man named Adolf named his son Adolf. Thus, he was called Adolf Adolfovich Volodko.

AuthorMy name is Adolph, and you can imagine how many strange situations I have been in because of it. Often people are shocked, offended or confused when I introduce myself. Some show concern and suggest that I use my second name or use a nickname to avoid this awkwardness. This experience motivated me to start this Blog project to inform the world about all the other Adolphs, depreciated and forgotten who, nethertheless, changed this world to a better place. Archives
