Spanish
Fashion designer
Born, 14 May 1950
Spouse Elena González Álvarez
Adolfo was born in a suit, a birthday suit, of course, he is cut from the same cloth as his father who was a tailor with his own little fashion boutique. Adolfo took the reins from his father’s business in 1970 and made a very successful business of his own and went on to win the 2014 national designer prize, as well as the Castelao Medal.
He studied design and film in Paris and continued his studies in London. On returning to Spain he started his own company with the slogan "La arruga es bella" meaning "The Wrinkle Is Beautiful". in 1997 Adolfo Dominguez S.A was the first Spanish design company to be on the Spanish stock exchange. Currently, there are around 400 shops of which 98 are outside of Spain. The company nets around 182 Million years per year. If you have not found Adolfo Domingo clothing in your nearest H&M or New Yorker that is because the companies marketing strategy avoids distribution through multi-brand stores. Although I am excited about Adolfo’s clothing I am not yet ready to burn a hole in my pocket to buy some of this designer clothing, but I admit they do look great.
In February 2010 Adolfo made an announcement that he believes in the "free dismissal, without administrative or judicial obstacles of employees" and that "we should abandon the welfare state that we can not pay". These comments were not without a controversy and rejection of the company. Further, the company was investigated and charged €1.22 million of interest and a €180 000 fine for tax evasion.
