Adolphe Lacomblé was born in Brussels on the 14th of December 1821. While trying to figure out who he was, I felt as if I stumbled upon a case of identity theft, since there are two Adolphe Lacomblé's both from Brussels, and they are often confused. This is not a case of counterfeiting rather they were different people, the second lacomblé was born, on the 16th of February 1886, also in Brussels. Perhaps the street name is in honour of both Adolphe's simultaneously.
The Adolphé lacomblé born in 1821 was a painter, art critic, and more so, served as the secretary of Brussels. His most famous work, was not one of his critiques, his own work, nor his political involvement. His name is remembered by an essay he published, "L'état actuel de la peinture en Belgique" (The current state of painting in Belgium, 1847). This essayed looked at the trends of the time, the influences on culture, and on different classes of society and as any good critique, suggestions and means of improving its teachings. The book is no longer in print, and after 150 years perhaps not so relevant, nonetheless it was his claim to fame.
This confusion is to do with the fact that the other Adolphe Lacomblé was an author of one of the first works in Belgium about copyright for photographic work. It seemed as if Lacomblé II was also an artist, and in a sense he was, but he never painted with a brush, rather with a camera.
Despite all of the confusion and lake of information about Adolphe the artists and art critique, we know that he lived on Linthout Street, near the corner close to Roodebeeklaan.
To have the name Adolphe is unique enough, but to share the same surname as well makes a biographer's life more difficult. This, however, is not the only Adolph to share a name and surname, there are many Adolph Mayers, and variants on the surname such as Mayer, and Majour.
