Born: November 26, 1931
Adolfo's father was a Spanish fisherman and his mother died when he was only three years old. Despite money being tight, he attended the National University where he studied painting and sculptor.
He also worked as a professor of architecture but at the same time in the 1960s got involved with pacifists groups, he stopped teaching in order to promote projects that aim to liberate the poor.
Besides his political work and organisations which work closely with church organisations, Pérez Esquivel remains an artist and has painted many murals and sculpted memorial statues including the Gandhi statue in Barcelona.
A documentary film has been made about his life “Adolfo Perez Esquivel: Rivers of Hope” it was made by the PeaceJam Foundation and it portrays both the history and struggles of Argentina and Adolfo’s life story from 1931 to 2014 and his involvement in the struggles of Argentina.
